Source: Russia’s MegaFon head Tavrin could resign soon

MOSCOW, Apr 22 (PRIME) -- Ivan Tavrin, general director of Russia’s MegaFon, one of the country’s leading mobile operators, is going to quit, telecommunications sources said Friday.

One of the sources said that Tavrin has been intending to quit MegaFon for a long time to focus on his own projects. Tavrin owns holding UTH Russia Jointly with media tycoon Alisher Usmanov.

Mass media reported that Tavrin could be replaced by his predecessor Sergei Soldatenkov, who has managed the operator for nine years till 2012, while Tavrin would go to Usmanov’s USM Holdings, which is also MegaFon’s biggest shareholder.

MegaFon did not comment on the matter.

The company’s board of directors will meet on April 27, and one of the issues on the agenda is an extraordinary meeting of shareholders.
